Who We Are

HIP HOP SURVIVORS is a cultural association dedicated to the promotion, development, and transmission of Hip Hop culture in all its richness and diversity. Based in Villeneuve-d’Ascq, in northern France, our association was founded with the conviction that Hip Hop is far more than an artistic movement. It is a living culture, a language of expression, and a powerful social force capable of bringing people together across generations, backgrounds, and borders.

From its origins, Hip Hop has been a voice for creativity, resilience, and transformation. It was born from the need to express identity, tell stories, and build community. At HIP HOP SURVIVORS, we embrace these foundations and work every day to ensure that this culture continues to evolve, inspire, and connect people at local, national, and international levels.

A Culture in All Its Forms

Hip Hop culture is multidimensional. It brings together dance, music, visual arts, and social interaction in a unique and dynamic way. Our association recognizes and values all these expressions. Whether through dance styles such as breaking, hip hop freestyle, or contemporary urban movement; through music including rap, DJing, and beatmaking; or through visual arts like graffiti, street art, and digital creation, we support Hip Hop as a complete artistic ecosystem.

Beyond artistic practice, Hip Hop is also about exchange, dialogue, and shared experiences. It is a culture that thrives on collaboration and openness. HIP HOP SURVIVORS actively encourages encounters between artists, cultural actors, and communities, fostering environments where creativity can grow freely and authentically.

Our Origins and Identity

HIP HOP SURVIVORS was created by individuals deeply rooted in Hip Hop culture, driven by a desire to preserve its essence while allowing it to evolve. Our founders and members share a strong belief in the educational, cultural, and social value of Hip Hop. This belief shapes our actions and guides our projects.

We position ourselves as a space of transmission and continuity. In a constantly changing cultural landscape, it is essential to maintain a connection between the roots of Hip Hop and contemporary forms of expression. We aim to honor the pioneers who shaped this culture while supporting new generations of artists who reinterpret it with their own voices and perspectives.

Creativity, Sharing, and Openness

At the heart of HIP HOP SURVIVORS lie three fundamental values: creativity, sharing, and openness.

Creativity is the driving force of everything we do. We encourage experimentation, innovation, and personal expression. Our projects are designed to allow artists and participants to explore new ideas, challenge conventions, and develop their artistic identity.

Sharing is central to our approach. Hip Hop has always been a collective culture, built on exchange and mutual inspiration. We promote knowledge-sharing through workshops, events, and collaborative projects, creating opportunities for learning and growth for all participants.

Openness defines our vision of culture. We believe that Hip Hop belongs to everyone. It transcends social, cultural, and geographical boundaries. Our association is committed to inclusivity, diversity, and respect, ensuring that our activities remain accessible and welcoming to all.

Our Role in the Community

HIP HOP SURVIVORS is deeply connected to its local environment while maintaining a broader outlook. At the regional level, we contribute to cultural life by organizing and supporting artistic events, workshops, and creative initiatives. These activities aim to energize communities, create social bonds, and provide platforms for artistic expression.

At the same time, our ambition extends beyond local borders. We actively seek partnerships and collaborations at national and international levels. Cultural exchange is a powerful tool for mutual understanding, and Hip Hop offers a common language that enables dialogue between cultures. Through exchanges, residencies, and collaborative projects, we participate in the global circulation of ideas and artistic practices.

Education and Transmission

Education is a key dimension of our work. We believe that Hip Hop is a powerful educational tool, capable of fostering self-confidence, discipline, and critical thinking. Through educational workshops, training sessions, and artistic mentoring, we support personal and collective development.

Our educational approach is based on respect, participation, and empowerment. Rather than imposing rigid frameworks, we encourage active involvement and co-creation. Participants are invited to become actors in their own learning process, developing skills while expressing their individuality.

Transmission is also about memory and heritage. By documenting projects, sharing experiences, and valuing cultural history, we contribute to the preservation and recognition of Hip Hop culture as an essential part of contemporary cultural heritage.

Supporting Artists and Cultural Projects

One of our primary missions is to support artists at different stages of their journey. Emerging talents often face challenges related to visibility, resources, and recognition. HIP HOP SURVIVORS works to create opportunities for artistic exposure, professional development, and collaboration.

We accompany cultural projects from conception to realization, offering support in organization, production, and promotion. By connecting artists with cultural networks and institutions, we help strengthen the sustainability and impact of their work.

Looking to the Future

HIP HOP SURVIVORS is an evolving association, constantly adapting to new artistic practices and cultural dynamics. We remain attentive to changes within the Hip Hop scene and society as a whole. Our goal is to continue developing meaningful projects that reflect the realities and aspirations of our time.

Looking ahead, we aim to expand our actions, strengthen partnerships, and deepen our engagement with communities and cultural actors worldwide. By remaining faithful to the core values of Hip Hop while embracing innovation, we seek to build a future where culture serves as a force for connection, expression, and positive change.

Our Commitment

HIP HOP SURVIVORS is more than an association. It is a collective commitment to culture, creativity, and human connection. Through our actions, we affirm our belief that Hip Hop is a living culture with the power to inspire, unite, and transform.

By supporting artistic expression and cultural exchange, we contribute to a more open, creative, and inclusive world, where every voice has the opportunity to be heard and valued.
